Social Anxiety
What is Social Anxiety?
Social Anxiety is a condition where one experiences the feeling of fear in social settings that something awful may happen now or in the immediate future.
This feeling may be ongoing daily or more discrete in situations in which one becomes the center of attention or may build to the point of panic.
How can Dr. Kohn help you?
Dr. Kohn uses a variety of evaluation forms and both Assessment and Treatment Tools in his Practice.
He uses a Holistic view of the patient and the problem.
Dr. Kohn uses a Biological-Psychological-Social framework to assess your symptoms because he knows that the proper diagnosis leads to proper treatment.
Social Anxiety disorder treatment: often a SSRI class of medication is used as a first line treatment (Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro)
alone or in combination with Busparone or a Benzodiazepine class of medication (clonazepam, lorazepam, alprazolam, chlordiazepate).
Individual psychotherapy plays another crucial role in the treatment of Social Anxiety. Therapy reframes the internal dialog of one's thoughts
of avoidance and often-irrational explanations that perpetuate the behavior. As one feels more confident socially, past feelings
connected to past ideas give way to a healthier way of being.
